Like to work on Sundays? Then you should read this.Sundays are nothing special for me as it is just another day. But what makes it more interesting is the mere thought of working in a deserted office, when almost all folks want to curl some extra time at bed. Yes, the calm atmosphere helps me to do some real work at office.
The last Sunday's experience will remain in my mind for a long time. It was a normal Sunday and I was at office at 8:30AM for a system testing. The official but requested login time for system testers was around 10:00AM. Now you should have known about me. I am always maintain "in time" rather being "on time". Yes, testing started at around 11:00AM, only when all the sleepy testers found their way to office.
The testing went smooth without any flaw till afternoon. Just when we were about to call it a day, a bombing mail came from tech support claiming that all the software were corrupted and needed to start re testing again. This meant that we had to start testing from the scratch. So the testing was declared as 'failure' and was rolled back.
Wonder what is scary about this? Wait...
Something or other made the testing to be finally over 9:00PM in the evening. All other guys left the office cursing everything they could, the manager, the tech team, etc - Yes, their valuable Sunday was wasted now. I remained in the office coz my shift time was about to start by 01:00AM ,the next day( I can be sure that this will be the worst shift time in whole world).
But, indeed I was happy. My dream of working lonely at office is a reality now. I worked diligently for about 2 hours. Just then the sleep angel was inviting into her world of dreams. As sleeping on chair did not suit me, I laid down the ground to relax myself before the tiring shift.
20 minutes after that I felt someone to scratch my legs.My eyes opened only to see a rat trying hard to eat parts of my pant. Gosh! I screamed. Luckily, none was there at office. I was the only one in the floor. Then I laid on a big desk nearby me.
Again into dreams! About half an hour later, I heard a distinct sound. Really distinct at that time of the day. I heard some screeching sounds, like machine being switched on and off frequently. The entire floor was dark except my bay. I became little nervous and waited for that sound to be heard again. This time even more louder and at may places.
God! I started reciting 'Gayathri Manthra'. I never thought empty offices would sound so dreadful.I went to wash room as my adrenalin gush made me to Choo- Choo. Just then, I was about to leave I heard water automatically gushing out of the pipe.
I was dead now. Ok! I planned that I should come back to floor only if my team mate comes in. I headed to the fire exit door to reach canteen. I was about to open the door. A rather horrible face looked through the glass. Man! What is this! Why did I come to office today?
A few seconds passed. The door threw open. Then emerged a figure. It was the security guard. I was still living. Then I headed to my canteen. I saw some workers arranging the chairs for next day. It was responsible for the screeching machine sound. I was relieved.
But what about auto gushing of water? I later found that the pipes had infra red sensors and would gush water when it sense something. It should have been a fly, mosquito or that stupid rat.
I am not sure now, if I would work on Sunday nights......
